Trip Review - Port Washington, New York, USA - Paul and Deb Koestner - February 2008

My wife Deb and I wanted to share with you how much we loved our stay at the Jungle Dome. It was the perfect base from which to stage our local adventures. And we got our fill in a short time, thanks to Karen's considered pairing of guides and guests.

What a rare find Luis is. Here is a guide who clearly knows his country, and continues his self-education while giving measured doses of what he knows, without any of the Disney fluff. We had several great excursions with him. About two minutes out of the Dome on day one he rounded up the tarantula pictured below, explaining how to hold them so nobody and nothing gets harmed. Thanks, Luis, we'll just have a look.

The entire staff made us feel at home during the time we spent at the Dome, which it turns out wasn't a whole lot. As you must know, it's strategically located for some of the most dramatic adventures to be had in Belize.

We noted how folks situated in other parts of the country suffered considerably more daunting treks to get to the same spots we enjoyed with relative ease. Coming back to the Dome for a swim and a great meal was the daily reward for the physical challenges we signed up for.

Thanks again for providing this great home base/haven from which to enjoy the natural wonders of Belize. And do pass on our thanks to Karen, David, Wani (I'm guessing there) and the rest of the staff, as well as the now famous Luis (saw him, as well as William from Che Chem Ha, on the History Channel), and Eddie from next door. They made for one stellar crew.

Fair winds,

Paul & Deborah Koestner, Port Washington, New York, USA - February 2008

PS: About the only thing I regret is not having purchased a great, waterproof camera before the trip. We missed countless photographic opportunities because of the daunting conditions constantly threatening an ordinary digital camera. Tell future voyagers they might want to splurge, at least on a waterproof throw-away
