Hotel Information: Fresh from a total renovation completed in 2006, the smoke-free US Grant offers opulence, grandeur, and gracious hospitality in the heart of the city. Specially commissioned Native American artwork is exhibited throughout the public areas and in guestrooms. The resplendent lobby itself is a work of art: white Italian Carrara-marble floors with gray veining, hand-milled carpets, hand-carved ceilings, and polished mahogany woodwork.

Amenity highlights: Adjacent to the lobby, the contemporary Grant Grill showcases California Native regional cuisine, a fusion of grilled specialties and local and market-fresh produce, along with regional wines and local brews. In-room dining is available 24 hours.

Insider tip: The hotel is a tribute to former President Ulysses S. Grant by his son, Ulysses S. Grant, Jr. When it opened in 1910, this was the place to be seen. Richly appointed guestrooms at this San Diego hotel feature pillowtop mattresses, white-on-white bedding, and 300-thread-count Italian linens–topped by specially commissioned one-of-a-kind French headboards. Original Native American art, custom-crafted furnishings, and crown molding are other distinctive features. Most of the marble bathrooms have glass-enclosed showers. All include stone basin sinks and British Gilchrist & Soames bath products. Bathrobes and slippers are also provided.
